Medical tourism is becoming a notable trend in many Asian countries as more and more customers choose to combine beauty treatments with travel experiences. In Vietnam, the development of the beauty industry is also opening up opportunities to attract international tourists.
According to Dr. Quang Tuan, the number of clients from Australia, the US, Canada, and several Southeast Asian countries inquiring about cosmetic services in Vietnam is on the rise, indicating the increasing attractiveness of the beauty market in the region.

It’s not just about cost.

Previously, Thailand and South Korea were prominent destinations for cosmetic tourism in the region. However, in recent years, Vietnam has also gradually attracted the attention of international customers.
According to experts, in addition to reasonable costs, factors such as doctor’s qualifications, safety standards, ability to handle complications, and quality of post-operative care are increasingly being prioritized by customers when choosing cosmetic services.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, a specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, observes that international clients are increasingly demanding more than before.
“Clients are not only interested in the aesthetic results but also evaluate the entire treatment journey, from initial consultation, surgical procedure, post-operative care to the support available after they return to their home country,” he said.
Technology and customer experience have become key competitive factors.
The development of the cosmetic industry depends not only on the skills of doctors but also on investment in technology and operational procedures.
At some aesthetic clinics in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the application of online consultation technology, remote customer support, and the establishment of standardized care procedures are considered part of a strategy to enhance the experience for international customers. According to these clinics, in addition to professional expertise, service experience is increasingly playing a crucial role in customers’ decisions when choosing an aesthetic facility.
Many hospitals and medical facilities are now also applying pre-operative simulation technologies, modern anesthesia systems, one-way sterile operating rooms, and standardized post-operative monitoring procedures to improve patient safety.

In addition, comprehensive service models such as translation support, airport transfers, accommodation, post-operative care, and remote follow-up after treatment are gradually becoming a trend in the field of cosmetic tourism .
Safety remains the core element.
Despite the rapidly developing market, experts believe that safety remains the most important factor in cosmetic surgery.
Choosing a licensed facility, doctors with proper training, clear risk control procedures, and the ability to handle unforeseen situations should be top priorities.
According to Dr. Quang Tuan, the sustainable development of the aesthetics industry cannot rely on advertising or short-term trends, but must be built on professional quality, ethical conduct, and transparency in medical examination and treatment activities.

The potential of a high-value service industry.
Some experts believe that, along with the development of healthcare infrastructure, technology, and service quality, Vietnam has many opportunities to become a notable destination for cosmetic tourism in Southeast Asia.
Amidst the continuously increasing global demand for beauty services, the integration of healthcare and tourism is seen as a highly promising development direction, not only generating economic value but also contributing to promoting Vietnam’s image as a high-quality service destination in the region.
To capitalize on this opportunity, healthcare facilities and businesses in the industry need to continue investing in technology, human resources, and safety standards to gradually build a reputation for Vietnam’s aesthetics industry in the international market.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Tuan graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City, receiving his Master’s degree in Surgery in 2018 and completing his Specialist Level I training in Cosmetic Surgery in 2024.
